As we have been loved

March 25, 2016 0 0

John 18:28-30

After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty.”
A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth.
When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Lord Jesus Christ,
no one who witnessed the events of this day could make any sense of it.

Why should you have to take up that space on the cross?
We may not know, -
we cannot tell,
but we believe it was for us  -
you hung and suffered there.

We bless you,
that for all humanity you proved the height and depth and width of God’s love.

As we contemplate your cross on this most holy day -
fill us with the same love that inspired such sacrifice and teach us to love others as we have been loved.

Amen
