An invitation to rest

May 26, 2013 0 0

Matthew 11 v 28 & 29

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Dear Lord,

On the day designated as, "The Lord's Day", we recognise our need to enter into the "rest" of God.

Forgive us when we are so caught up in worldly agendas, religious pursuits and even perceived spiritual struggles, that we miss the way of Sabbath Rest, and the principle of drawing aside to spend time with our God.

Forgive us that at times we spend so long in the work of God, that we neglect the presence of God, and thereby store up periods of dryness, burn out and confusion. Save us from the old error and help us truly see that; "The last temptation is the greatest treason: to do the right deed for the wrong reason".

May we enter this rest with our Lord, and emerge refreshed for the ongoing journey for the Kingdom.

Amen
