An invitation to sacrifice

Colossians 1 v 24

Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

Dear Lord,

In the early days of our faith journey, we make good progress, often through the sacrifices of others, and the blessings they bring us. We acknowledge too, the painful lessons and times of growth through difficult encounters, although the visible progress made it all seem worthwhile.

The way of sacrifice for others though is different, in that we cannot always see the full reason for what we are doing, or exactly who is going to benefit from this kind of encounter.  Yet you invite us, even through suffering to play a vital part in the up building of others.

Teach us then the value of "stranding in the gap", of intercession, of sacrifice that we might share fully in your mission for the church and hear, in the echoes of eternity, "well done thou good and faithful servant".

Amen
