A sun-burst through dark clouds

Isaiah 9:2

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; and they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined

Father, your glory breaks through into our lives in amazing ways.  We stand looking out the window at a dark, overcast sky when, suddenly, the sun breaks through the clouds and sends a shaft of light onto the frosted branches of the trees.  They glisten and sparkle as they reflect the light.  The sinking sun shines against a distant pane of glass and we watch as the reds and oranges intensify then fade.  The light overcomes the darkness.  The beauty and the unexpectedness take our breath away.

When all around us is dying, when the trees stand gaunt and bare and the last of the frosted rosebuds falls from the stem, when the days are shortest and the nights unbearably long, remind us of those moments of wonder.  Remind us that the days will lengthen, that the snowdrops are waiting to burst through the frozen ground.  Remind us that with you behind us there is always hope for new life.
