Symphony of lies

This month we are exploring the issues that surround the whole idea of temptation. The thing is everyone at some point in time has experienced what it means to be tempted. Facing temptation and being tempted is not the sin. It is when we ‘give in’ to temptation that we find ourselves having been deceived. Temptation always promises more than it delivers. Have a listen to the opening video of Sanctuary First how often have we allowed ourselves to believe that we deserve special pleadings. You know the kind of thing, in principle it is normally wrong, however the extenuating circumstances means that in “my “case its different. The voice of evil always seeks to deceive the listener. In our prayers and Bible readings this month we are going to take some time to reflect on the dangers of being deceived by such a voice. Jesus faced great temptation before starting out on his ministry. Would he live for his own physical gratification turning stones to bread. Would he live to indulge his own ego - expecting God to always save him Would he live for fame and riches - selling his integrity for wealth and influence. These are the three great temptations of everyman. These temptation ideas are further explored in the story of the rich man Dives and the poor man Lazarus Week 1 Riches Can Make You Blind Week 2 Even the dogs have more compassion Week 3 Deception has a Price Week 4 The Danger of Religious Cynicism Week 5 Trust a Delightful Experience.
