From Loose Ends to Holy Endings

This month we are engaging with the topic of “Loose ends holy endings”. I first came across this idea of ‘holy endings’ when I heard Andrea Wigglesworth speak at the 2008 nation gathering in Ingliston. It made me think that there are times in our lives when we need to honour what we’ve been doing but bring it to a holy end. Too often people have what I call too many loose ends attached to their lives. This month we are sure you will find opportunities to engage with material which we hope will help tie up some loose ends, in your life. Areas that need to be brought to a holy ending.. The way to get the most out of the material published here is to take time and engage with the Sanctuary First worship service. Please click here if you wish to view the service. The theme “Loose ends holy endings” will be tackled under four distinct themes this month. Week 1 Our first set of seven prayers this month will deal with prayers surrounding guilt and forgiveness. During this week take time to look at the clip from the Mission highlighting Captain Mendoza’s struggle as he engages with repentance and being truly penitent. Week 2 In week two the prayers will be varied and seek to reflect people in various situations struggle to come to terms with a variety of endings. We all look for happy endings but in reality most of our endings look more like “Loose ending” Week 3 In Week three the prayers will reflect people who have made a journey to a better place and are thanking God for what they have learned through the struggle. Some of these prayers will reflect the benefit of engaging and reflecting upon our baptism and what it means, or taking time in a prayer to reflect on the significance of receiving Holy Communion. These prayers will seek to give us all an insight into the importance and significance of our rituals as we worship. Week 4 In week four the prayers will seek to be reassuring. Prayers that will help us see that God can make the most of difficult of endings and bring healing into that experience. The prayers during week four will engage with various experiences of healing, using imagery from scripture and also our daily experiences.
