Faith & Mystery

Nothing stays the same in life even the boring times change. We ourselves know we are constantly changing. We change our clothes, change our jobs, even change our friends and sometimes partners. We are all constantly changing. It means for all of us there is a bit of a mystery about life. In our more reflective moments we ask, does life have meaning? Who am I? Why am I here? Does God exist? What is he or she like? The overall theme for the month of October is Faith and Mystery. This theme perhaps describes the journey we are inviting you to take with us, as we launch this ambitious worship project. We are aware we don’t have all the answers, we know we live with uncertainties, and we are aware that faith does not promise all the answers. In fact the life of faith often takes us to the place of mystery and questioning. We believe it is when we embark on such journeys of faith that we often encounter the living God. Over the next four weeks we’re going to explore on a daily basis some of these issues. In week one we’re going to reflect on the theme “The Mystery of God and Creation” In week two we’ll consider “The Mystery of Creation and the Word” How God speaks in and out of and through creation, using people, ideas and words to communicate with us. In week three we’ll think about the creative identity of God and the mystery of the Holy Spirit, as we consider “The Mystery of the Spirit and Creation” In week four the idea is that God is by nature, a revealing and mystery creating Being. We will hopefully will learn that God is often revealed in the actions of humans as we respond to the needs of other people. So at the heart of Christianity there is the mystery of the God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit revealing, relating yet often hidden and shrouded in mystery from his creation. However we believe that he has revealed what we can understand. For Christians Jesus Christ is God’s ultimate revelation. It is Jesus who helps us understand God.
