Daily Worship Writer - Jane Denniston on Rage
We thank John Povey for his Daily Worship week and we welcome Jane Denniston who continues our Autumn theme The Bible: our Library, our Sanctuary beginning on Sunday 18 October.
Jane describes herself as a "retired parish minister, pastoral supervisor, wife, mother, grandmother, and struggling disciple"!
The Bible is not a book. It’s a place. A place we can bring all our emotions. A place we can bring our disappointments, our frustration, our rage. The Bible does not shy away from intense emotion or rhetoric — it is a vivid account of humanity discovering itself and God. And it gets messy sometimes. And Angry. It is okay to experience a range of emotions (both in the Bible and in our response to it) and Jane takes us through the personal, prophetic and political anger and ctitique of injustice and inequality we find in the Bible.
"Revolutionary God,
help us to shove against the wrongs in our society today.
Give our courage strength.
Give our compassion power.
Give our commitment resilience.
Give our care capacity."
