Yeast

Listen to this daily worship
Matthew 13: 33 (NRSVA)
33 He told them another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of flour until all of it was leavened.’
My Dad makes excellent bread. As we all know, to make bread rise you need yeast. During the Covid lockdown there was a period where it was difficult to buy yeast in the shops. My Dad wanted to bake a loaf but didn’t have any fresh yeast and couldn’t get any at the supermarket. He rummaged about in the kitchen cupboards and found some yeast in the back of a cupboard that had gone out of date. He knew it probably wasn’t the best idea but he used this old yeast and as expected the bread didn’t rise properly.
It made me think that for God’s Kingdom to grow here on earth, we, the yeast, need to be fresh and alive.
Are you?
Are you alive in Jesus, ready and willing to grow God’s Kingdom in the flour he puts you?
Prayer:
Lord God,
Fill us with a hunger to know you more and to raise and grow your Kingdom where you place us
Amen
