Isaiah 40: 27-31 (NRSVA)

27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
    and speak, O Israel,
‘My way is hidden from the Lord,
and my right is disregarded by my God’?
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
    and strengthens the powerless.
30 Even youths will faint and be weary,
    and the young will fall exhausted;
31 but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.

Life can be a hard journey with many twists and turns,

Which if we are honest are usually unexpected. There will be mountains to climb and rivers to ford…

And what gives us the strength to go on?

God!

I can place my hope in God.

For God never grows tired or weary… and when I am weak and at the end of myself… then God is still strong. All of the way through our Bibles we see the truth about the nature of God. God is always there. God can always be relied upon. God loves us. And God is the one thing that we can always trust.

Often it’s only when we realise our own limitations and powerlessness over situations that we are able to let God be God, guiding us and caring for us and we experience the joy and exhilaration of soaring on those eagle’s wings…

But what if in all things we learned to wait on God… if in all things we are conscious of where God is leading or what God is asking and just let God be God and trusted… just to be… and do… and to love as we are loved?

PRAYER:

The truth,

You are the wind beneath my wings…

Even when I’m too stubborn to fly.

You are my strength…

Even when I’m too proud to rest in it.

You are the hope within me…

Even when I am so sure of my own direction.

Why do I wait until I am spent…

Why do I break myself trying…

Why?

Wind blower,

Wing maker,

Hope igniter…

Let me find the peace of waiting and resting in you…

As the spark of your hope spreads within me,

May I find the energy and the faith to shake out my wings…

That the winds of your spirit might fill them

That we might dance together

Weaving and swooping as one

To be and to do,

To live and to love…

At one with you.

Amen
