Listen to this daily worship

Genesis 1: 26-27 (NRSVA)

26 Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’

27

So God created humankind in his image,
    in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

Maps are in the likeness of the land.

Features insignificant and grand.

Contours shaped by each rise and fall,

Church, park, meeting hall.

A fence is a line,

Path is dot or dash.

So much is given a sign,

Symbols for your eye to catch.

The land forms the map.

And yet, the map misses so much.

So much life is not, cannot be shown.

The sound when trees touch

And sea-birds, windblown.

For land is more than a map,

There is life in the land.

Humankind is in the likeness of God

Carrying the image and adored.

More than the contours of love,

Breathing the life-giving Spirit like a dove.

More than symbols and signs,

Encounters of heaven touching earth.

More than colours and lines,

Beauty growing, rebirth.

God forms life.

Prayer:

Creator God, when you formed humankind in your likeness you poured your image in us, we carry the fingerprint of God in our lives. We are thankful we are not flat, 2 dimensional representations of you Father, Son and Holy Spirit, but we are alive with you.

All creation is groaning for reconciliation with you, Creator God. As we walk amongst this earth, help us to be reconciled to you, enable us to reconcile the rest of creation to you. Holy Spirit, teach us Your everlasting ways of being ambassadors, representatives of Christ in this world. We ask for your comfort and guidance to continue being the fingerprint of God in our generation as your legacy of wild love is mapped out in this world.

Rewild us as your fingerprints of love.

Amen.
