Waiting

Romans 8:23

Romans 8.23

And it’s not only the creation. We ourselves who have the Spirit as the first crop of the harvest also groan inside as we wait to be adopted and for our bodies to be set free.

CH4 726 v3

Sometimes we sorrow, other times embrace,
sometimes we question everything we face;
yet in our yearning is deeper learning:
we belong to God, we belong to God.

Roberto Escamilla and John Bell

God, it’s hard to wait. Waiting with pain or sickness or disappointment. Waiting with frustration or despair. Just waiting. You see the end from the beginning, we don’t. We sometimes fell things are moving backwards. You, who learned how to wait within the womb of Mary, help us in our waiting.

We give thanks for the Christmas season, for those who came to gaze upon the baby in the manger, and for all who have come to wonder ever since at this holy birth. As your faithful people longed for a Messiah, may we long for his return, and for the full freedom of your children in a heaven and earth made new.

Thanks be to God who works in and through our waiting. Amen.
