The Prince of Peace

John 20: 19-23

19-20 Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he showed them his hands and side.

20-21 The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were exuberant. Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you.”

22-23 Then he took a deep breath and breathed into them. “Receive the Holy Spirit,” he said. “If you forgive someone’s sins, they’re gone for good. If you don’t forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?”

So much disturbs our peace, Lord, Yet you come despite our worries about what others might think, into our fears of not being good enough, our endless comparisons. And say ‘peace be with you’.

Through the locked doors of our convictions, our certainties and our insecurities Still you come And say “ peace be with you’.

And into that peace, Lord we hear your command to forgive. Does that really mean the woman on the bus who annoys me with her loud music? YES Does that really mean the colleague Is always putting me down? YES Does it mean all those who have hurt me deeply? ~YES Does it mean today? YES, YES, YES

Lord with your peace, your new peace, your deep peace, I will begin the task of loving as you loved the task of forgiving as you forgave the task of accepting as you accepted.

Today I will live with the echo of your words “As the Father has sent me, so I send you, peace be with you.
