The Boxer

Mark 2:14-17

As he was walking along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed him.

And as he sat at dinner in Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were also sitting with Jesus and his disciples—for there were many who followed him. When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard this, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”

When I left my home

And my family,

I was no more than a boy

In the company of strangers

In the quiet of the railway station,

Running scared,

Laying low,

Seeking out the poorer quarters

Where the ragged people go,

Looking for the places

Only they would know.

This song bring back memories of school summer holidays when a friend and I would hang out in each other's homes, listening to music and, in particular, singing the  harmonies, one voice complementing the other.

I've lost touch with that particular friend but the memories are good.

Prayer

God of times and seasons

we do not know what lies ahead

We know not where we will be

or who will be with us

But you are faithful

You who bring harmony

wherever you are

You who make yourself at home

wherever we are.

God in ever circumstance

make us aware of your presence

and help us to let others see

that you are all in all.
