Matthew 2: 13-15

The Escape to Egypt

When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt,  where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

Lord, watching the news on TV from the comfort and safety of our living rooms we can’t even begin to imagine the suffering of the millions of people who’ve had to flee from their homes in Syria. But You understand… because of Jesus Christ, the child refugee, the adult rejected by his own people who had nowhere to lay his head.

Hear our prayers for the people of Syria, including the millions who have been displaced. Bring an end to the violence and brutality and let us see the rebirth of hope and peace.
