Sport for life and wholeness

Hebrews 12:12-13

Therefore lift your dropping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.

It sounds good God – to be healed, to be strengthened, to have a strong body.  We would like every day to wake-up and be full of energy and wholeness. But somehow that is not the reality of our lives.

Lord, to be picked for the team makes us feel part of something bigger than ourselves; to use our aggression in positive way and not be forced to deny or suppress a part of our personality that can scare others; to bond with people who share our passion making us commit and sacrifice to causes greater than ourselves.

Merciful God, forgive us when the vanity of a winning mentality can lead us to unwise and ungodly actions.  Make us wary of allegiances and ways of living that are contrary to the biblical values you invite us to live by.

Living God, once the race is run and the game is finished we seek a God of grace and peace. We ask Lord that we are able to use these desires and energies to provide us with a sense of balance that will bring us into harmony with You. Amen
