2 Corinthians 3: 12-18 (NRSV)

12 Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness, 13 not like Moses, who put a veil over his face to keep the people of Israel from gazing at the end of the glory that was being set aside. 14 But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, that same veil is still there, since only in Christ is it set aside. 15 Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds; 16 but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.

Freedom has become a dream for many, a battle cry for others, an object of fear for the powerful. The Messiah has set us free to enjoy freedom. The freedom of the presence of the Lord, with no intervening veils or clouds. The freedom of the glory of the Lord, the shining beauty of being of God. The freedom of transformation, we who come trailing clouds of glory are renewed into ever increasing glory. The dream of freedom is the vision of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the generous God who gives glory and freedom to his beloved children.

PRAYER:

Holy Spirit,
    glory of God,
    life—giver, life—enabler,
be glorified among us.
You blow where you will,
we do not know and cannot tell the paths you trace.
You are unchained and uncaged,
we cannot constrain or control you.
Known and unknown,
Holy Spirit of God,
breathe the glory of God upon us.

Powerfully gusting wind of the Spirit,
tear from our faces every veil which hides and separates,
every veil which enslaves.
You come to us freely, set us free into your freedom;
the freedom to behold the glory of God,
the freedom to be in the presence of God,
the freedom to grow into the likeness of Christ.

Living water of God,
come to renew us,
to refresh and restore us.
As the flood waters of the Spirit baptise us,
set us free to worship,
in Spirit and in truth.
To worship as Christ worshipped,
immersed in the Father, to worship through the Son,
to reach even the glory of God,
and in reaching be for ever transformed.
In the freedom of the Spirit
to worship what we know,
to worship from the reality of salvation,
to worship in the coming time which is already here.

Holy Spirit, living freedom of God;
breathe new freedom in this heart of mine.
show the freedom of Christ in all I do,
give your freedom to all that God has made.
In the name of Jesus Messiah for the glory of God the Father, in the freedom of the Spirit.
