Sensitivity

Isaiah 61:1

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

The hymn says, “The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord,” so we will take it as read that all we pray for in and through the Church we do so in the name of Jesus.

We pray for the people of the Church of Scotland to be blessed with a spirit of sensitivity.

Loving Father, being sensitive to the moment and the people of the moment is sometimes hard. It is often much easier in life to live by orders and ordinances than by the spontaneity that being sensitive to the moment will bring us. Grant to all who work in and through the Church of Scotland the willingness to respond to the serendipity of each moment, the openness to be aware of the rhythm of the hour and the readiness to request for every day the guiding hand of God. Take away our fear of uncertain moments and instead, help us to anticipate that you are there to bring your blessing.

Amen.
