Compassion

2 Corinthians 1:3 – 5

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.”

The hymn says, “The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord,” so we will take it as read that all we pray for in and through the Church we do so in the name of Jesus.

We pray for compassion to be in evidence in the work of the Church of Scotland.

Thank you, O Lord, for the comfort you have brought to us in our times of trouble. When we have been at the end of our tether you heard our prayer and consoled us. Surely there are many, many people just like us who long for comfort in their troubled lives but do not know where to turn. Bless all the people whose work and witness of compassionate love is done through the Church of Scotland. Help them to meet the needs of people going through times of trouble, not so much in their own strength but in the strength of the Compassionate One whose peace they already enjoy.

Amen
