Saying Sorry

1 John 1: 5-10

Light and Darkness, Sin and Forgiveness

5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[a] sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Lord you are not like us, your ways are not our ways and your thoughts far exceed our own. Promises we struggle with, yours never fail.

God, you are light and in you there is no darkness at all.  Thank you that when we struggle to know what we can place our trust in, you are the transparent one who is only light. We pray today for all who feel confused by living, who have been in distress or have experienced trauma. We pray for people who have been hurt by others and we pray for those who have hurt others. We remember people who are crime victims and we remember people in prison.

Lord, maybe sorry is the hardest word, but you know and we know, what a difference it can make.

Forgiveness didn’t come easy for you either God, it was costly and Jesus gave his all to deliver the rescue plan that leads us on a journey of transformation and hope. Thank you - there is a Redeemer, there is hope. Amen.
