Sacrificial Love

Elspeth January 30, 2014 0 0

Luke 21: 1-4

Now Jesus looked up and saw rich people dropping their gifts into the offering box. Then he saw a destitute widow drop in two small copper coins. He said, "I tell you with certainty, this destitute widow has dropped in more than all of them, because all the others contributed to the offering out of their surplus, but she, in her poverty, dropped in everything she had to live on."

Father, what is true wealth?

Jesus spoke to his friends of the widow who gave all she had.  It would have been so easy for her to give one coin and keep the other for herself.  Such a small coin - no one would notice the difference.  And yet she gave both to you and left herself with nothing.  Such sacrificial love is beyond our understanding.

Father, help us to understand this idea that the more we give the more we have.  Help us to let go of things we think we need and so make space in our lives for the things you want us to do.  Help us to free up our hearts and minds, to un-clutter our lives so that we can travel hopefully, enriched by your blessings.  Help us to give all of ourselves to you and to keep nothing back.  Amen
