Restore Peace

November 12, 2015 0 0

Psalm 42

As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?
3 My tears have been my food
    day and night,
while people say to me all day long,
    “Where is your God?”
4 These things I remember
as I pour out my soul:
how I used to go to the house of God
under the protection of the Mighty One[d]
with shouts of joy and praise
    among the festive throng.

5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.

God is concerned for the whole of our being and welfare and Jesus demonstrated thesis he went about his ministry among those who were poor and needy as well as those who were rich; among the sick as well as the healthy; among the sick in mind as well as the sick in body.

Mental Illness robs those who suffer of their peace and causes stress and anxiety amongst families. It afflicts those of all ages whether children suffering with depression or eating disorders or elderly people with dementia. `it affects one in four of our population and most of us will know someone who has been affected by mental illness and will have witnessed the loss of peace that it brings.

Today we pray for all those individuals and families affected by mental illness, praying for the restoration of peace in their lives.

Prayer

Father in heaven who knows our every thought, we give you thanks that nothing is hidden from you. You understand all our fears and anxieties, our anger, our sadness, our distress, our hopes and our joys in a way no one else can.

We pray today for all of us whose peace has been destroyed by the impact of mental illness whether they be children suffering with depression or eating disorders or elderly people with dementia. Grant them you peace in the midst of their distress. Bring peace to families struggling as they watch a loved one suffering from the effects of mental illness and help them to support and remain strong. Bring peace and assurance to those treating and caring for all those who are mentally ill and give them the skills and patience required for the task.

Surround all with you live and tender care and restore peace to their souls. We make our requests in the name of the prince of peace, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
