Listen to this daily worship

Isaiah 40: 3-5 (NRSVA)

3 A voice cries out:
‘In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord,
    make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be lifted up,
    and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
    and the rough places a plain.
5 Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
    and all people shall see it together,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.’

Some people iron everything: underwear, bed sheets and bath towels. Others only what is absolutely necessary.

Some people iron as soon as items are dry. Others wait until the item is about to be used.

Some people iron in silence. Others watch a movie or listen to the radio.

However and whenever people iron, we all do it for a reason: to remove creases and wrinkles from fabric, creating a beautiful flat surface that welcomes and impresses.

PRAYER:

God of high mountain tops and deep valleys,

may this offering of time, energy, and care

be transformed from a chore into an act of appreciation:

for myself, through those items which will touch my skin,

and for others, through clothes that will greet everyone I meet;

may this offering not be one of vanity but of respect,

for me, for my neighbour, and ultimately for you, AMEN.
