Psalm 139: 1-6 (NRSVA)

1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you discern my thoughts from far away.
3 You search out my path and my lying down,
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
4 Even before a word is on my tongue,
    O Lord, you know it completely.
5 You hem me in, behind and before,
    and lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
    it is so high that I cannot attain it.

There is nowhere I can go that God cannot. Nowhere that I can hide from Him. He knows my thoughts before I think them, and my words before I speak them.

What does He think when He sees inside my heart?

And yet still He loves me. Still He pursues me. Still He calls my wandering, prodigal heart home to shelter with Him.

I wonder…

What His hopes are for me? What dreams He has planted within me? What plans He hopes to fulfil through me?

Lord,

You have searched me,

And you know me.

Really?

You?

Know Me?

But why would you want to?

Sometimes that dumbfounds me, amazes me.

And so I wonder,

What are you like that you want to know me?

I’m not good at asking for help,

But help me today to trust you more,

To not hide from you, but to open up to you,

And to learn with your help to live

So that maybe together we can discover the dreams that you have for me.

Amen.

For our July theme In Good Time we are revisiting past weeks of Daily Worship. Our writers this month are taking us back in time as we meditate on time itself! The piece above originally came from 2018.
