Luke 10: 25-27

The parable of the good Samaritan

‘On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher, “he asked,” what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

“What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you read it?”

He answered: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your soul and all your strength and with all your mind’, and,’ Love your neighbour as yourself.”

Lord, Others in need of love! Others in need of support! Others struggling with bereavement!

I see all these others in need and I hold back because I don’t quite know what to do.

Then, you confront me with your risen self and suddenly your resurrection power fills my being and my thinking.

No longer are they ‘others’ they are yours! You gave your life for them just as you did for me!

They are no longer others they are my neighbours.

Touch my heart with love for my neighbours and open my mind to understand their needs.

Release me from all fear of rejection so that I may share your love with my neighbours. Give me courage to show your love in the way that they will be able to accept.

As my life is filled with your mercy may that mercy overflow to my neighbour in need.

Amen.
