My “Today”

Psalm 46

God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need him.
We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom,
courageous in seastorm and earthquake,
Before the rush and roar of oceans,
the tremors that shift mountains.

Jacob-wrestling God fights for us,
God-of-Angel-Armies protects us.

River fountains splash joy, cooling God’s city,
this sacred haunt of the Most High.
God lives here, the streets are safe,
God at your service from crack of dawn.
Godless nations rant and rave, kings and kingdoms threaten,
but Earth does anything he says.

Jacob-wrestling God fights for us,
God-of-Angel-Armies protects us.

Attention, all! See the marvels of God!
He plants flowers and trees all over the earth,
Bans war from pole to pole,
breaks all the weapons across his knee.
“Step out of the traffic! Take a long,
loving look at me, your High God,
above politics, above everything.”

Jacob-wrestling God fights for us,
God-of-Angel-Armies protects us.

Jesus -Already the sun-light is beginning to herald the dawn.

It is five in the morning, (an unearthly time for some, I know)

But, for me, the best time of the day.

There is a hush, moments of stillness, which I want to hold on to ..just a little bit longer.

A blackbird sings blithely from the rowan tree, my old Ford Fiesta stands tucked almost out of sight behind the shrubbery.

I find myself thinking of the words of that “calming” hymn.. By J Whittier.

“Drop thy still dews of quietness

Till all our strivings cease

Take from our soul, the strains and stress

And let our ordered lives confess

The beauty of Thy peace.”

Jesus – I give my “today” to You.

All my fears, worries, work problems..and mostly the people I will encounter .

You know all my feelings, thoughts and failures.

You know how I love You and really want to help others.

Sometimes, I just “follow my heart” and well, You know what a mess I can find myself in.

As I set off, driving up the road to work,

(May one of the road traffic lights be at “green”.. just one, dear Jesus ,would be great!)

I listen to my beloved music as I whiz along the highway – (but still have one eye on the road)

Comfort all those I drive by, total strangers, bless them in their days work

Help me meet with You in those special moments of quiet stillness,

Yet, also in those moments of rush and busy times too.

May my “today” be filled with Your loving presence

Help me see others through Your eyes.

“In quietness and confidence is my trust”

And I know You will be with me today as You always are

Thank-you!
