Isaiah 2: 1-5

1 The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

2 In days to come
    the mountain of the Lord’s house
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
    and shall be raised above the hills;
all the nations shall stream to it.
3     Many peoples shall come and say,
‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
    to the house of the God of Jacob;
that he may teach us his ways
    and that we may walk in his paths.’
For out of Zion shall go forth instruction,
    and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations,
    and shall arbitrate for many peoples;
they shall beat their swords into ploughshares,
    and their spears into pruning-hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
    neither shall they learn war any more.

5 O house of Jacob,
    come, let us walk
    in the light of the Lord!

What a vision:

Of the ends of the earth streaming to stand before you

United in worship, acknowledging your majesty

Streaming in peace and harmony

What a vision

Lord we long for that day, for that sight

So help us to do all that is in our power today - and more

to make that vision real

Unclench our bunched fists

Soften our hard hearts

Open our closed minds

May our eyes see opportunity all around

May our tongues speak only love

And may our feet walk only peaceful ways

to usher in your kingdom

in all the spaces we inhabit today

And when we are discouraged

when our efforts seem futile

give us persistence in the face of all that conspires against peace

Paint your vision afresh for us today

Write it large on our minds

So that all our words, all our deeds, all our ways

cause peace to break in wherever we are

seeing a tiny part of your vision realised today.

And hoping for your vision to become real in us.
