1 Corinthians 13: 4, Malachi 3: 7 (NIVUK)
(1 Corinthians 13) 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
(Malachi 3) 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,’ says the Lord Almighty.
We move in this verse from love being contrasted, to love being defined. Love is never in a hurry. Love can wait because love sees what others can’t see. Love can see the outcome, love will be there for the outcome because love will never give up.
The prophet Malachi in this passage is saying, don’t try to be in a hurry, don’t try to rush success. Be careful lest you may rob God of the plans and the journey he has for your life. Our readings invite us to return to the beginning, to go back to the starting blocks and like a marathon runner wait for the gun to go off. Don’t run another person’s race. Get in lane and run the race you have been given with patience and determination. The task you face may be very difficult, the decisions you make may feel hard and dreadful. But you are called to make such decisions out of love never fear. Perfect love casts out fear. Ask God to give you a portion of decision making love if you are fearful of the decisions you are being asked to make.
PRAYER:
Indefinable God of Love
Patience is your hallmark
Love is your identity
Endurance your eternal attribute
Nothing can faze you
Nothing can distract you
Nothing undermine you
Nothing overwhelm you
You see the end from the beginning
You patiently wait for our response
Give to us today a portion of patience
Above all a portion of decision making love
That we might learn to love through the endurance
Knowing that you work all things for our good.
God of indefinable love
Let patience define the love of my soul
And fear be removed from my heart
