Love cares more for others…

Mark 5:22-24, 35-36

Mark 5:22-24

Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.”  So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him.

Mark 5:35-36

While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.“Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

“As I have loved you, love one another….” (John 13:34,35) How do we love like Jesus?  It’s a tall order! But let’s take a look at those who have tried.

There is nothing a parent won’t do for their child.  Jairus, a leader in the synagogue, a man of standing, position and power throws himself down at Jesus feet and begs him to help his daughter.  Love doesn’t mind looking foolish for someone else.  It doesn’t mind if others talk.  Love will go to any length to save another.

Lord,

help me to love with passion:

to love without limit

and without thought for myself -

beyond the circle of blood relations,

Just as you did.

And do even now.

Because that’s the kind of love you love me with

and those I love,

as well as those I don’t

and don’t know.

Thank you.

Amen.
