Luke 3:10-14

“What should we do then?”the crowd asked (John the Baptist).

John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”

Even tax collectors came to be baptised. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”

“Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them.

Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?”

He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay.”

“As I have loved you, love one another….” (John 13:34,35) How do we love like Jesus?  Again we turn to those who have tried.

and postmen, car mechanics, teachers, shop assistants, school pupils, hairdressers, students, the unemployed, the retired came to John and asked him “and what should we do?”   Be honest and fair says John, in all your dealings with everyone.

Lord,

help me to love

showing respect for others.

Let my love treat people well

Let it make me honest

and ethical

in my living and working.

Trustworthy.

Reliable.

Honourable.

Visibly yours.

May I love as you did

And love still.

Because that’s the kind of love you love me with

and those I love,

as well as those I don’t

and don’t know.

Thank you.

Amen.
