Longing for good news

Isaiah 40:30-31

Do you not know, have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
The Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary
And his understanding no-one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
And increases the power of the weak
Even youths grow tired and weary
And young men stumble and fall
But those who hope in the Lord
Will renew their strength
They will soar on wings like eagles
They will run and not grow weary
They will walk and not grow faint.

Lord I long for some good news,
To see good things in the world
To hear good things,
I am so weary of pages filled with stories and images
So often leaving me fearful, worried, helpless
What can I do?
Why them, why me?

Storms that claim lives
Hungry children, dirty water
Staring faces looking to understand
To be comforted and safe
Let the politicians sort it out!
That’s their job -
But they stand on such shaky ground

Thank you for the promise of your kingdom
Which cannot be shaken
For strength to face the day and hope arising
I have seen with my eyes and hear your voice call
‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
