Hebrews 10: 23-25

23 Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep his promise. 24 Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. 25 Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer.

When we listen to the news it is so easy to become depressed at the state of the world. We wonder if humankind will ever learn to live in peace and harmony. And what can we do anyway? What difference will our little lives make? Then we remember the twelve dodgy disciples Jesus called, leaving them at the end of his ministry to make disciples of all the world! Now that circle once so small extends around the whole wide world! Wow!

When will God finally sort out the suffering and injustices within our world? God knows! And we leave it with him. Our task is to get on with the Christian life, holding on to our sure hope, showing concern for one another, helping one another, doing good wherever we can, and bringing love into a world that needs it so much. Now is not a time to give up, now is not a time to be discouraged, let’s continue to usher in the Kingdom of God!

Prayer:

Our Father, who is in heaven, may your Kingdom come and may your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. We claim your promise to be with us, always, and never to desert us. Help us to journey on, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. Fill our hearts with love and help us to encourage one another as we meet in homes and in Churches, in cafes and in houses, in halls and online, indeed wherever your people are praising. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
