Jairus’ Daughter, from Death to Life

Luke 8:49-50

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. ‘Your daughter is dead,’ he said. ‘Don’t bother the teacher anymore.’

Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.’

Lord I have served you faithfully all my life and now my daughter’s life is in the balance.
Help me! Help me God!  You have to help my daughter. The pain of helplessness is like a raw wound gnawing at me.
I need you God, you God, not empty words on a page.
Maybe Jesus is the answer, but I’m a man of status and he’s just a travelling teacher. How can I humble myself to ask for his help?

God, you know I would do anything for my daughter, anything at all.
Jesus, Jesus, please help my daughter.
“Don’t be afraid; just believe and she will be healed”.
I’m not sure I can trust you Jesus after all I’m an educated man with real understanding.
Yet, I’m desperate for my daughter.
“MY child get up!”
She’s standing up! She’s healed!
O God, not only have you heard my plea, you have come to my rescue yourself!
In person!

“Don’t be afraid”. Now I am secure in the comfort of your power.
My courage is renewed in the light of your presence.
My soul is illuminated by the light of your love.
I only need to remain in your presence to witness the hope in my heart become real before me.
