Jeremiah 29: 10-14 (NIV-UK)

10 This is what the Lord says: ‘When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfil my good promise to bring you back to this place. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,’ declares the Lord, ‘and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,’ declares the Lord, ‘and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.’

Exile is never the end of the story.

Through Jeremiah, God speaks to people who are far from home. People who are surrounded by grief, uncertainty, and the consequences of brokenness. Perhaps this is a space where you are, or have been.

Yet even there, in that space filled with grief and loss God plants a promise: “I know the plans I have for you.”

Not plans that caused their suffering, but plans that refuse to abandon them within it. How beautiful is that?! God does not delight in exile, loss, or pain, yet somehow His mercy works quietly through ruined places, preparing renewal where we expect only despair.

Living in expectation of renewal means trusting that barren seasons are not empty of God’s presence. It means believing that even while we wait, God is gathering scattered hopes, restoring weary hearts, and calling us toward a future shaped not by our wounds, but by His faithfulness.

Renewal begins the moment we dare to seek Him again.

Prayer:

Lord, meet us in every place of exile and breathe hope into the weary parts of our lives.

Teach us to trust that even in suffering, You are gently preparing renewal, restoration, and a future filled with hope.

Amen
