1 Timothy 6: 7-8 (NIV-UK)

7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

We have found ourselves in a consumerist world of too many things and a million problems coming with it, but this verse reminds us that it is all temporary. Life is temporary. We exist in the moment and in this moment we can suddenly focus on the little things, like what is for lunch.

If you were heading out for the day — no things,  no bag weighing you down — just a picnic blanket and a packed lunch, what would you bring? What are your favourite snacks, drinks or sandwich fillings? Are you more of a pasta salad person? Do you prefer a bento box or a slice of yesterday's pizza?

At the moment my ideal lunch would be some noodles, stir fried veg and a protein of choice layered through them and a dark sweet sauce to finish it off.

What would yours be? Take a moment to imagine it now…

I am achingly aware that I am lucky to live in place and in a moment in time where I can think of this scenario and make it a reality. I have the privilege of having trappings to imagine away.

Today, let’s take time to be thankful for everything we eat.

If you are someone who often eats in a rush between things, try to really notice what you are eating, where it came from, how it feels and thank God for it.

Let’s love our food this week and let it love us in return.

Prayer:

God of this and every fleeting moment,

Thank you for all the food in this world, thank you that so many of us have the time and opportunity to enjoy so much of it.

Please help us to choose things that nourish us, both in our body and our soul

Lead us towards a world where we are ready to come to you, not missing our objects but knowing our moments have been well loved, well lived, and well fed.

Amen
