When a face lights up
Listen to this daily worship
Psalm 67 (NIV-UK)
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us –
2 so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.3 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity
and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.6 The land yields its harvest;
God, our God, blesses us.
7 May God bless us still,
so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.
Look around the room. No two faces are the same. Some are young. Others lined with years. Some smile easily. Others carry stories they have never spoken aloud.
The psalm speaks of God’s face shining upon us. We know what it is like when a face lights up as someone recognises us, welcomes us, delights to see us. A face can change the atmosphere of a room without a single word being spoken.
Imagine God’s face turned towards the whole world like that. Not one nation or one people — every nation, every language, every face held in the same gracious gaze.
Prayer:
Lord,
let your face shine upon us,
until we become people
whose presence brings peace,
whose welcome brings hope,
and whose lives reflect your love.
May all the peoples of the earth
rejoice together
in your goodness.
Amen
