How long, O Lord?

Martin Fair May 12, 2015 0 0

Acts 1:6

Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Reflect on 1st Thessalonians 4:13-11

Heavenly Father, just as your first disciples did, we long to see your Kingdom come and, with them, we cry out, 'Is this the time?'
We can hardly bear the suffering that we see in the world and that in some measure we ourselves have a part in.
We long to see love's victory over hatred and the triumph of goodness over evil.
Might we see your Kingdom coming in our generation, Father?

But you tell us that these things are not for us to know and so we must satisfy ourselves with glimpses of your Kingdom and fore-tastes of the banquet which one day we will sit at.

Until that day, inspire and enthuse us, Gracious God. Open our eyes that we might see signs of your Kingdom all around us, in the everyday and the ordinary. And through our living, might others be able to see something of you, Lord, and your eternity.

How long, O Lord? How long till the blind shall see and the deaf hear? How long, O Lord, till justice is done, till the dove of peace hovers over the earth?

Grant us disciple-like faith as we await the coming of your Kingdom.

In Christ's name, Amen.
