Psalms 13: 1-2 (NRSVA)

1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me for ever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I bear pain in my soul,
and have sorrow in my heart all day long?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

God you call us to be real

Real humans

experiencing all that being real entails:

loss and hurt

sorrow and yearning

disappointment and anger

darkness and despair

In all of our emotions

in every season

may we glimpse, however faintly

the light that you hold out

at the end of every tunnel

the promise that you reveal

in every rainbow

Enable us not to deny our feelings

but, in the midst of them, to know your presence

sitting with us in our pool of tears

striding beside us in our march of anger

scrambling behind us as we seek to escape

And may we know your embrace

not pinning us to the moment

but steadying us

ready for release

as we find the strength

to rise once more.
