God’s light

September 23, 2015 0 0

Ecclesiastes 3:4

God sets a time for sorrow and a time for joy,
A time for mourning and a time for dancing

Reflection
You may like to use the symbol of a balance or set of scales as a focus for your prayers.
Today where I sit it is the equinox, that rare day which happens twice a year, spring and autumn, when day and night, light and dark are in balance. The rest of the year there is always more light or more dark. Tomorrow there will be more darkness than daylight. In life there are times of sadness and joy, but rarely balance. Consider what you might take of God’s light with you into the dark portion of the year.

Prayer
Shining God,
your light surrounds me,
and because of your light I see the light,
to you there is no darkness, only light.
Yet I am all too aware of the shadows in life,
the hard and the sad times,
the misery and drudgery,
the harshness and cruelty that exist in this world.
“There are always shadows over the earth,
but its lights shine brighter in contrast.”
Shining God,
give me faith to live in life’s imbalance,
and to enter the darkness as a bearer of your light.
