‘Forgive us our debts’

Martin Fair January 25, 2014 0 0

Matthew 6:12

'...and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.'

Heavenly Father, in the prayer that he has given us, Jesus encourages us to ask you to 'forgive us our debts.' While there may be times in life when we are in debt monetarily speaking, to a lender of one kind or another, this is most assuredly true: that we are all in debt to you, enormously and more so than we'd ever be able to pay back. You have, since before we were even born, been good and gracious to us. You have held back nothing from us, not even your only son, Jesus. How can even begin to contemplate paying you back! The little we do, or can give, will be nothing as compared to what you have done. Truly, we are in your debt.

On bended knees, we will do then the only thing that we can possibly do; we will ask for your forgiveness. Please, Lord, look kindly upon us and wipe the slate clean for we would be free from our debts and freed to live life in all it's fulness.

We pray in Jesus' name, AMEN.
