Fear of the Lord

Psalm 111:10

Psalm 111.10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practise it have a good understanding.

Acts 5: 3 – 5
‘Ananias,’ Peter asked, ‘why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You did not lie to us but to God!’ Now when Ananias heard these words, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard of it.

Oh, Lord, my God
You are a great God
The hills and the trees tremble before you
The mountains and seas quake at the sound of your voice
If I beheld you
In all your glory
I could not stand
I could not live.

Your glory is too great for me
And in your presence I am nothing
All my good deeds crumble to dust
My fine words are ashes in my mouth
And nothing that I have or am
Remains when in your presence.

For with a glance you see through me
And with a word you destroy me
Keep me faithful, Lord.
Fill me with your Spirit
And your strength
That, weak as I am,
I would be true to you,
And keep my promises
For the sake of your great love for me.
