Fashioned by God’s hand

Romans 8: 10, 11

But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

Romans 8: 20 - 25
A pregnant creation is an intriguing expression - ‘all creation groaning and travailing’ in the Authorised Version – the coming of Christ has cosmic consequences. All history and geography and biology and ecology are within the comprehensive loving plan of God.
‘Behold I make all things new.’
Not just you and me, not just the church or the nation, but all things are coming to fruition, we are ‘work in progress’, being made new. Such is the significance of the Easter events for all time, for all people, for all creation.
Not that the process is straightforward, and certainly not pain-free, but the promise holds good: ‘We are enlarged in the waiting.’  (v 19)
‘Keep your eye on the prize, hold on, hold on’ in the words of the spiritual.
The Christian life is always a journey: discipleship takes a long time as we have the rough edges rubbed off, as step by step, inwardly and outwardly, we learn the mind of Christ and the ways of the Spirit.

Romans 8: 10, 11
“It stands to reason doesn’t it, that if the alive-and-present God who raised Jesus from the dead moves into your life, he’ll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to himself….With his spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!”

Prayer

O Christ the Master Carpenter who at the last through wood and nails
purchased our whole salvation;
wield well your tools in the workshop of your world,
so that we who come rough hewn to your bench,
may here be fashioned to a truer beauty of your hand.
Amen
