Matthew 12:46-50

Jesus’ mother and brothers

46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.’

48 He replied to him, ‘Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?’49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers.50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.’

God; Father, Brother, Mother

I thank you for my earthly family.

I thank you for husband,

children,

sisters and brothers.

I thank you for the rock that they provide

in all my life.

There in the background,

or well to the fore,

whatever the situation requires.

I thank you for love;

for fun and happiness,

for a safe haven in storm,

for a hospice in danger,

for a sanctuary in distress.

I thank you for truth;

for honesty and openness,

for a mirror to my faults,

for a presence in my turmoils,

for a support in my struggles.

I thank you for joy;

for the easiness of relationships,

for fun in togetherness,

for contentment in closeness,

for laughter in companionship.

In you I live and move and have my being;

in the circle of my family I reside

and have my well-being.

They are your gifts to me

and for them I thank you.
