Guided by Commands

Psalm 119 : 97 - 104

Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.

Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies.

I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.

I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word.
I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

I thank you today that your commands are always with me:
your commands to love my enemies,
to forgive those who have hurt me,
to provide water to those who are thirsty and food for those who are hungry.

They give me with wisdom which works in every situation,
which gives my living a focus which would otherwise be lacking.

I thank you that your commands are always with me:
your commands to love you with all that I have,
to love my neighbour as myself,
to refrain from violence and be ready to turn the other cheek.

They contain wisdom which is deeper than that of any culture,
so that whichever part of the earth I find myself in
they remain as powerful as ever.

I thank you that your commands are always with me,
so I pray for the grace to learn to obey them more and more,
for the faith to put them into practice today,
and for the confidence to keep trusting them tomorrow.
