Romans 8:20-21

Romans 8.20-21

Creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice—it was the choice of the one who subjected it—but in the hope that the creation itself will be set free from slavery to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of God’s children.

CH4 617 v1

Great and deep the Spirit’s purpose,
hidden now in mystery;
nature bursts with joyful promise
ripe with what is yet to be.
In a wealth of rich invention,
still God’s work of art unfolds;
barely have we seen, and faintly,
what God’s great salvation holds.

God, forgive us for the cataracts of spirit that we keep on growing. Restore in us the curiosity of children, the energy of teenage years, the wisdom of adults who look forward with children to Christmas.

We pray for those who govern in very different parts of the world: may they choose to care for the creation, and not hasten its decay through blindness, laziness or greed. As we marvel at your commitment to creation, spending hidden but fruitful time in Mary’s womb, we pray for all engaged in pre-natal care, for midwives and for all who wait for the time of birth, in Jesus’ name.

Thanks be to God to who does not give up, and holds us in the hollow of his hand. Amen
