Competing

Mark 10:31

Jesus said “But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.”

Dear God our Father, so much of the world seems a competitive place. We can appear to be set against one another and told by the ethos of the world that life is like a ‘race’, where only the winners matter.

Jesus told us that the ‘first would last, and that the last would be first’. Let this give us a sense of perspective as we harness the drivers of our soul, seeking to use these ‘competitive urgings’ as a means of solving and not causing problems.

Lord, focus our attention on those who might be left behind in life’s struggles and help us to admit that sometimes we are compelled to strive to the detriment of others.

Forge in us loving God, a sense of togetherness that your disciples can pass the relay-baton of faith to each generation. For in being part of a team of grace means we will compete with a belief that sometimes the unfairness and injustices of the world will be turned upside down in Your kingdom.
