Can Sins be Forgiven?

Romans 8: 31-35

More than conquerors

31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died – more than that, who was raised to life – is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Sometimes I stand in church and find myself utterly amazed and overwhelmed at the shear capacity of God’s grace to me. Silence is often more effective than songs of praise. To be dumfounded  in the presence of the Almighty  is surely a worthy reaction.

I dare not lift my eyes to see your face
My eyes are dry no sentimental tears
But deep within my heart cries out to you
And once again I’m forced to face my fears

Can sins be forgiven
When hearts have been broken?
Lives that are ruined
Given a meaning?
Then I remember
The Lord’s mercy is never failing
New every morning
Faithfulness dawning

I dare not lift this doubting heart in praise
The journey to this place has cost too dear
And as I try to sing a prayerful praise
familiar guilt condemns the wasted years

Can sins be forgiven
When hearts have been broken
Lives that are ruined
Given a meaning?
Then I remember
The Lord’s mercy is never failing
New every morning
Faithfulness dawning

I dare not think that faith could be restored
Can love once scorned still grace a rebel heart
My inner secrets are all known to you
I cannot hide myself behind pretence

Can sins be forgiven
When hearts have been broken
Lives that are ruined
Given a meaning?
Then I remember
The Lord’s mercy is never failing
New every morning
Faithfulness dawning

I cannot close my heart to mystery
The heaven’s declare your majesty and awe
So I will wait in stillness and in hope
Redeeming love has brought a rebel home.
