An arm around our shoulders

Isaiah 40:1-3

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God; speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, and her iniquity pardoned.   The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness:- prepare ye the way of the Lord: make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

Loving God, as we come nearer and nearer to the time of celebration, we pray for all those who find this time of year so difficult.  Bring comfort to the folk who will be alone, grieving for a loved one now no longer there to share the joy.  Bring comfort to the hungry and the homeless folk who have no means to celebrate.  Bring comfort to those who are ill or confused.  Bring comfort to all the people in our communities and around the world who are caught up in conflict or violence. Bring comfort to all who walk in darkness or sit in darkness or hide in darkness.  May those who cry to you from their own personal wilderness know that you hear them.

Bring peace; deep inner peace, your Peace.
