After the Fire

1 Corinthians 3:12

Some will use gold or silver
or precious stones in building on the foundation;
others will use wood or grass or straw.

When God calls us to bear fruit he doesn’t expect everyone to be able to bear the same amount of fruit. Jesus reminds us that we all reproduce at different levels. We are all gifted in different ways. No two people are the same. It’s not the numbers that count it’s being fruitful that matters. It’s the heart that bears the fruit.
Now understanding fruitfulness is an important growing point in the Christian’s life. You see it is the value of our fruitfulness not the volume of our fruitfulness that really counts. In our reading today Paul reminds us that our fruitfulness will be tested by fire. What remains will be evident for all to see. Hay, wood and stubble may have a great deal of volume but after the fire nothing is left. However gold, silver and precious stones may be small in volume but after the fire their value remains.

Lord

In my less confident moments

I ask myself

What will I have left

After the fire

What will I say

After the fire

What will I do

After the fire

Where will I be

After the fire

Then when all seems lost I think again

I ask myself

Why should I fear

After the fire

For the apostle reminds me

Be confident

For He who began a good work in you

Will carry it on to completion

Until the day of Christ Jesus

So all will be well

After the fire

Thanks be to God.
