Luke 2: 8-12

And there were shepherds living out in the fields near by, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’

Somehow waiting seems to infer that something will be coming, while watching implies an active wishing, hoping and praying for the arrival. As we watch for the Kingdom are we longing in anticipation?

Lent Disciplines

Look at a map and find something North of where you live that you want to pray for. Then turn to face North and pray for that thing. Then find something South/East/West and do the same, turning in that direction and praying for that thing. It can be any distance, it could be a neighbour down the road, or the polar ice caps up North.
