A Creative Spirit

Psalm 133

How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!

It is like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
even life forevermore.

There is something about our humanity that makes us want to be creative. Some people think it is this creative spirit that marks us out as different and unique from the rest of the animal kingdom. The Bible reminds us that we are made in God’s image. He is the great creator. So perhaps it’s not impossible to think that we have inherited some of our creator’s traits? He has made all things to fit together and he calls us to live and fit to gather in harmony and love. The beauty of the priestly robes in ancient Israel spoke to the people of the beauty and grace of Yahweh.

Lord,
Isn’t it wonderful
When plans come together
When colours and fabrics match
When friends live in harmony
When light and shade
Space and place
All interact to create an experience of beauty
When brothers and sisters worship together without fear

Today Lord,
Give me a creative eye
Help me find the confidence
To explore
The colours and fabrics of life
Give me a creative touch
To move into new spaces
Echoing the freedom of your love

Lord
It’s wonderful
When plans come together
But even more so when
Friends live together in harmony and peace,

Lord
thank you for my friends
